a surefire way to create delays

The way Down (note little chicken on right side)

Don’t you just hate it when you loose something of value?  Especially when that loss means a lot more work and a greater delay getting home?  Last night we had one of “those” nights coming home.  Jackie and I loaded up the cargo sled for town since we needed gas for the generator, propane for my office heat, and 3 bags of laundry.  The key decision was made when I told her, “yes, lets take both snowmobiles.” even though everything fit on the cargo sled.  The non-hauling sled is the newer fun and fast Polaris XLT that is my treat for all the extra winter chores.

Busy Town Time

We made it to town and seemed to pack about a dozen errands into several hours.  (after a few years being remote, you learn how to consolidate every trip!)  We headed back home.  The weather this year is strange in that we drive tin he first mile where the snowmobiles take us from the washboard on home.  Must have loaded the cargo sled with a couple hundred pounds of gear, and got it all strapped down. Time to start up the Ski Doo and Polaris to head home.

OOps, do you have the key?

Here’s the part where it got more tiring.  I couldn’t find the key.  I emptied every pocket for Jackie’s inspection.  With flashlights, we scoured the area and  truck.  Must have lost it in town.  Darn, I was meaning to put that key on a keyring :( .  Well we were blessed to have another option, so that we could avoid another forced night time hike in the snow!  It could have been worse.

loaded for home!

After a struggle with the loaded sled, I managed to get it hooked up to the Polaris.  My poor Hot Rod sled had to be used as a ‘sled dog’ hauling machine!  Didn’t like the wear on the drive belt, but we eventually made it home, more tired than usual, but ever so thankful that no hiking was involved.

Moral of the story:  Don’t loose your KEYS!!

What kind of delays do you endure on your way home?  Don’t you hate getting home extra late?  Please share, leave a comment!
