Jackie and I moved to the Lake Chelan area mountains in 1999 with our two young children( now teens). Since that time, Jackie and I built our house and several outbuildings to house sheep, llamas, and goats. Trained as an electrical engineer, the whole building and ranch thing has been quite a learning experience for me.
I designed and built our solar power system for the house. For a year or two we dabbled with wind power too. Its hard to believe it has been 10 years of using snowmobiles on the 4 mile trail home in the winter!
Everything has not worked perfectly all the time, but we stick with it and keep improving things. Learning and improving to find what works, is what “Real off grid living” is all about. We hope you find this information valuable and time saving as you make off grid choices!
